MGP Mass Effect 3 Review
Mass Effect 3 Review
Bioware’s trilogy Mass Effect comes to a close with the release of Mass Effect 3. The Mass Effect story is based upon Commander Shepard who has fought countless enemies on the way to the conclusion of the fight against the reapers and the illusive man. The Sci-Fi RPG is action packed with more than just dialogue though. Mass Effect 3 delivers the most action and combat from any game in the Mass Effect series to date.
Gameplay
Mass Effect 3 saw some minor changes to the gameplay, all for the better though. There are more quick commands to link to your ability wheel than before including quick commands for your squad members. If you have Kinect you can direct your squad by speaking. Sorry to say that gameplay feature didn’t make it to the PlayStation 3 version. The enemies A.I. has also undergone an upgrade and the enemies are now more aggressive and will consistently be on the move to try and kill you during firefights as well as attempt to get close enough to melee. The overall conversation system remains unchanged. As you go depending on your actions certain conversations will have more or less options depending if you’re a good or bad Shepard.
Presentation
The graphics in Mass Effect 3 are outstanding. Some of the best I’ve seen on any RPG on the consoles this generation. That being said the graphics did not get a major upgrade from what we saw in Mass Effect 2. The attention to detail is amazing take the Krogan for example who is a lizard like character you can see each and every wrinkle and different color dot on its skin. (see picture below for Krogan character) Mass Effect 3 is a gorgeous game and you can easily lose time just walking around looking at the scenery when playing.
Features
Kinect- As mentioned earlier if you have Kinect you can speak commands to your squad mates. I personally can’t speak to its functionality because I have Mass Effect on the PS3.
Story Mode- The story alone will take you anywhere from 24-32 hours depending on how many side missions you choose to do, and once DLC is released those hours will be increased a bit.
Co-op- Co-op makes it way to Mass Effect 3 for the first time in the series and I must say it is a blast. In Co-op you team with 3 other players to take on waves of enemies with each wave having a different goal. One wave will be to power down satellites when another will be to kill certain targets. It adds a nice element to the once strictly single player only title.
DLC- If you pre-ordered your game you already got some extra DLC missions and some nice armor. Bioware also released a free DLC pack last week for the multiplayer aspect of the game. There were several DLC packs for Mass Effect 2 and I expect the same from BioWare with Mass Effect 3 with the packs adding hours of content to the game.
Overall
If you’re a fan of RPG’s or Shooters Mass Effect 3 is the perfect combination of the two. With plenty of action and also plenty of dialogue and customization Bioware has done a great job marrying the two genres together in the trilogy finale. Mass Effect 3 ends the Shepard story but Bioware has promised that it is not the end of the Mass Effect series it will be interesting to see where they go from here. Either way with what they have done with their first 3 installment’s into Mass Effect I’m on board I encourage all gamers to jump on the Mass Effect train with me. I score Mass Effect 9.1/10
